Offshore Oil & Gas Workers Deserve Strong Union Representation

Offshore oil and gas workers are facing new challenges that are reshaping the industry. It is already a demanding and constantly changing sector.

Offshore oil and gas workers in turn deserve job security and pathways to progression within the sector.

The MUA understands this, and is dedicated to protecting your rights and well-being. We have a strong history of representing offshore oil and gas workers, and are determined to help rise to the challenges of the future.

We're here for you now, and have been working hard to make sure that the future of offshore work is strong and secure for everyone in the industry.

The Offshore Alliance

Offshore Alliance is a partnership between the Maritime Union of Australia and the Australian Workers' Union.

Formed in 2018, the partnership covers every position within the offshore industry, including but not limited to:

  • Maintenance and inspection workers
  • Engineers and construction workers
  • Data analysts and ROV pilots
  • Cooks and other rig staff
  • Paramedics and other essential workers

Within the short existence of Offshore Alliance, we have been able to deliver impressive outcomes that have benefited a large number of offshore oil and gas workers, including:

  • Better enterprise agreements, replacing common law contracts that didn’t fit the offshore industry
  • Increased pay and job security with producing giants such as Woodside, Chevron, and Shell
  • Negotiated, union led standards industry wide across the Western coast of Australia
  • An end to casual work for regularly rostered offshore workers
  • Improved safety standards across the offshore oil and gas industry

Offshore Alliance is also advocating for the future. With the renewed focus on sustainable energy, we're fighting for an industry that can aid in and be an essential part of the transition to renewable energy.

By doing this, Offshore Alliance is ensuring that offshore rig workers have job certainty, substantial pay, and a bright future for years to come.

Join the Offshore Alliance today

The MUA has a rich history of solidarity and camaraderie, fighting for the rights and dignity of our members. With the creation of Offshore Alliance, this work is stronger than ever, driving positive change for the offshore oil and gas industry.

Your Union

The Seaman's Union of Australia and Waterside Workers Federation merge to create the Maritime Union of Australia (1993). The lead-up to the merger saw the Marine Cooks Bakers and Butchers Association (formed in 1908) amalgamated with the SUA in 1983, and the Federated Marine Stewards and Pantrymen's Association merged in 1988. In 1991 the Professional Divers Association also amalgamated with the S.U.A.
