The Maritime Union of Australia Division (MUA) of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) is seeking a paralegal to join its in-house National Legal Team. The successful candidate will provide professional and efficient administrative and legal support to the MUA’s in-house lawyers.
Located in the MUA’s National Office in Sydney, the position reports to the Division’s National Legal Director and works closely and in a collaborative manner with the wider Divisional National Legal Team.
The responsibilities of the role are broad: encompassing legal research, preparation of Court and Commission documents, information management for the legal team, administration of files, liaising with the Fair Work Commission, court and regulatory authority administrative officers, managing the Maritime Security Identification Card application process and appeals, monitoring relevant websites and maintenance of the legal database.
To be considered for the role candidates must possess solid paralegal and administrative skills which demonstrate an ability to organise information as well as an awareness of industrial legal processes and the importance of timeframes. A capacity for multi-tasking together with a high level of computer literacy is essential.
This role would suit candidates who have qualifications in legal services or who possess or are studying for legal qualifications, with a minimum 12 month’s relevant employment experience.
