Dangers of Self-handing

The International Transport Workers' Federation found this recent example of the dangers of shipowners bypassing port labour.

In an attempt to reduce labour costs and to introduce a new style of self handling by shipping lines, in an unspecified port, one car carrier tried to unload all cars in one move.

Unfortunately (for the shipping line and the manufacturer of the cars) it didn't go well.

Hiring some port workers to unload the ship car by car would have been cheaper
