French seafarers to strike11 July 2003
The French seafarers union is calling for a national strike in protest at government plans to downgrade their pensions The seafarers' federation of the Confederation Generale du Travail has called on its members to stage a minimum 24-hour stoppage, as new legislation on pensions goes before parliament. Ferry services in the English Channel and the Mediterranean and tug and other port services are the most threatened by the union's planned action, Lloyds List reports.
