MUA/AWU alliance meeting builds unity

04 November 2005

By Rod Currie - National Industrial Officer

The Alliance meeting on the 27th Oct in WA that hosted delegates and activists from the 2 unions was attended by up to 50 people throughout the day.

The meeting kicked off with rousing welcomes from the Branch Secretaries Chris Cain (MUA) and Tim Daly (AWU), both spoke of the importance of developing solidarity on the job and how in the current political climate it is paramount that to achieve a decent outcome workers stick together and act collectively.

Mick Doleman (MUA Assistant Nat Sect) addressed the conference and outlined that

the Alliance between the AWU & MUA is one that is committed to offshore Oil and Gas Industry workers, the unions are of the opinion that for too long Offshore Oil and Gas Industry workers have been under the pump in relation to matters of Industrial and Political terms and conditions and not getting a fair go. The MUA and the AWU are 2 fair dinkum unions committed to having a go for workers in this Billion $$$ Industry.

The unions aim to work together for a safer and efficient industry.
