Offshore Talks continue

19 July 2002

By Mick Doleman - Ass.Nat.Sec.
This News Item is restricted to the MUA General Industry Division

The national negotiating team meet the Offshore employers in WA.

Representatives from the three Maritime Unions agreed to the collective discussions as recognition of the strength in negotiations through unity.

The rank and file from the Unions added value to the discussion with experiences relayed around the claims of the unions.

All the employers were in attendance.

The discussions were held between the 16th and 18th July in WA.

The unions went through the members log of claims with the employers and some of the issues seem to receive early agreement .

The employers have agreed that retrospectively back to the 1st July 19, 2002 would apply as long a the discussion continued in good faith and worked to a conclusion of the 1st August 2002.

The employers will respond to the unions claims in writing in the week commencing the 22nd July and we would then work towards another collective meeting within the month or earlier.
