Power to May Day03 May 2008By MUA news -
Sydney took May Day back to its roots this year, with the rally timed for the State Labor Conference in Darling Harbour and the "Power to the People" campaign to stop privatisation of the states electricity on Saturday Instead of the traditional march through the CBD, unions rallied outside the conference to hear speakers outline the case against the sell off. Inside New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma faced open revolt to his plans to privatise. When put to the vote after heated debate the government policy was defeated 702-107. The MUA is part of a coalition of unions fighting privatisation of public assets, including Sydney Ferries.
