Hungry Times: surviving the Great Depression

Twenty free tickets to MUA members!!

The Historic Houses Trust's exhibition Hungry Times: surviving the Great Depression is now on display at the Museum of Sydney.

Hungry Times explores Sydney's experience of the economic crisis of the 1930s and includes the union film production of the 50s The Hungry Miles.

The exhibition conveys the mood and flavour of Sydney life at this time: from ingenuity and community spirit to political activism, from everyday life to key events and personalities of the period, from the politics of the day to unemployment, evictions and crime. Included in the display will be a themed section on 'making do' which examines how Sydneysiders adapted to the changed conditions so as to make ends meet. These stories are told through text panels, paintings, drawings, photographs and original material from the Depression years.

Contact Sydney Branch if you want a free ticket to go along.
