Welcome to the Maritime Union WA branch web page. Ours is the biggest branch in Australia spanning over 13,000 kilometres in distance and 14 ports with more than 3000 members and growing.
We cover divers, offshore oil and gas workers, construction workers, barge workers, port workers, seafarers and stevedoring workers in 14 ports from Esperance Albany Bunbury, Broome, Kwinana, Fremantle, Port Hedland, Wyndam, Geraldton, Carnarvon, Onslow, Exmouth, Dampier, and Derby. The union has recently opened union rooms in Karratha as a base to organise the Northwest Shelf workers.
The MUA WA branch works closely with the Australian Workers' Union organising the offshore workers. It also has a sister port relationship across the Indian Ocean with Durban, South Africa and SATAWU, the South African Transport and Allied Workers’ Union.
Warren Smith, MUA Assistant National Secretary MUA 31 Aug 2010 Safety should not be optional. It should be an absolute right and like other rights it should be enshrined in law.
