1,800 people marched on WA Parliament today to protest against local resources manufacturing jobs being lost to offshore.
Woolf reports He plays an excerpt of the speech Kevin Reynolds, Secretary, CFMEU, made to the rally. Reynolds says at the Cape Preston, all the concrete products are being manufactured in China and shipped in. He claims foreign companies want to own, build and operate projects in Australia, and argues they are getting to this point. Woolf plays an excerpt of WA Premier Colin Barnett's address to the crowd. The protestors are heard calling for Barnett to speak to the rally, then booing and jeering as he takes the microphone. Barnett says he is happy to talk and answer questions for those who want to listen. He states the protestors are raising a 'real issue'. Woolf plays an excerpt of the speech Will Tracey,Maritime Union of Australia, made to the rally. Tracey says the MUA will have an influence on the Gorgon project if the WA Govt won't stake their claim. Woolf says he will be discussing the issues raised by the protestors with Chris Evans, Federal Minister for Jobs, and Colin Barnett, WA Premier later in the program.
