Port Waratah Coal Services, Newcastle voted worlds best - Chair tells its workers to be proud of what they have achieved
MUA members and the Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) were recognised as the world's best specialist dry bulk terminal at a prestigious awards evening at the Savoy Hotel in London last week.
Organised by the International Bulk Journal maritime industry magazine, the 'IBJ Awards' attracted entries from major port and terminal operators around the globe.
The award was presented to PWCS Chairman Mr Michael Harvey by IBJ Publisher Mr Ray Girvan.
The IBJ Awards panel of industry Judges noted PWCS' relentless expansion program, enabling it to load 1,077 coal export vessels in 2009 and maintain its status as the world's largest coal export facility.
The Judges also noted PWCS' expenditure commitment of more than $1.6 billion on infrastructure over the past decade.
"Every employee and contractor at PWCS should be particularly proud of this recognition, as should people from the Hunter region," PWCS Chairman Michael Harvey said.
