Union logies for MUA

Maritime Union takes out not one but two awards at the ACTU union logies

"Gotta love Sydney Ferries" took out the coveted Best Workplace Campaign award at the ACTU union logies at Darling Harbour Sydney last night, with the MUA crew of the Front Puffin and Oceanic Viking also winning a special commendation. The main award was for the successful community campaign the union ran with UnionsNSW against the privatisation of Sydney Ferries, by film song and celebrity support.

There to accept the award were Assistant National Secretary Warren Smith, Sydney Branch Secretary Paul McAleer, Assistant Branch Secretary Paul Garrett, Sydney Ferries rank and file delegate Mark Champley AMWU delegate Chris Moutter and representatives of the UnionsNSW.

The MUA crew from the Front Puffin and Oceanic Viking also took out a special commendation on the night for 'bravery, courage and compassion assisting the rescue of refugees off Ashmore Reef in April 2009 and Indonesia in October, 2009. MUA Oceanic Viking delegates Ashley Pollock, John Allwood, Kel Lewis, and Bruce Noble were nominated alongside Front Puffin MUA delegates John, Steve Hulm, Jeff Carrol, Jannick Hansen, Mark Taylor and Ian Lamey for their selflessness, leadership, principled action and outstanding contribution.
