MUA National Secretary and ITF dockers chair Paddy Crumlin is leading the push to have global network terminal Maersk sack the contractors behind bashings

High level ITF and Indian union representatives will speak out on Friday in Mumbai on the intimidation of port drivers that has led them to publicly demand that shipping and port giant Møller-Maersk get rid of the contractor responsible.

They will do so at a press conference at 13:00 on Friday, 4th December in the Lotus Room of the Trident Hotel, Nariman Point, Mumbai.

The press conference will be headed by Mahendra Sharma, ITF Asia-Pacific Regional Secretary; Paddy Crumlin, National Secretary of the Maritime Union of Australia, and Chair of the ITF Dockers' Section; and SR Kulkarni, President of the TDWU (Transport and Dock Workers' Union of India).

The speakers will come directly from meetings of ITF-affiliated dockers' unions where the situation in Mumbai is being reported on, following the Federation's call last month to Møller-Maersk to finally sever its relations with the contractor, SC Thakur, which it alleges has repeatedly attacked port drivers.

Full details of the joint ITF-Indian union action and the reasons for it can be seen at www.itfglobal.org/press-area/index.cfm/pressdetail/3950/region/1/section/0/order/1
