MUA thanked for giving Solidarity and Support to NZ Earthquake victims

Published: 5 May 2011

MUA thanked for its solidarity, generosity and support given to MUNZ after Christchurch earthquake.

Maritime Workers are tough men and women. But our comrades across the Tasman in the Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) were shaken to the core when earthquakes hit the south of New Zealand in recent months.

In addition to a terrible death and injury toll, towns were flattened and ports (including Lyttleton) were destroyed.

The MUA immediately organised a solidarity fundraising drive to help with recovery. The generosity of MUA members and their families was on show with $32,000 sent across the Tasman to MUNZ.

MUNZ General Secretary Joe Fleetwood has sent a message of comradeship and thanks to MUA National Secretary Paddy Crumlin.

The solidarity the MUA shows with our union brothers and sisters should always be commended and we are proud to have assisted in New Zealand's time of need.
