During the trip to Cuba for May Day the MUA delegation met with the families of the Cuban 5.
The five Cuban men are in US prison, serving four life sentences, after being wrongly wrongly accused by the US government of committing espionage conspiracy and other related charges.
The MUA delegation pledged to the wives, mothers and sisters of these men that the union would do what it could to help. And on return the union launched a postcard campaign.
"We designed and printed 20,000 postcards and members all over the country have been signing them and posting them to President Obama calling for the release of the Cuban 5," said Mich-Elle Myers, MUA.
Over the weekend the Cuban Consulate announced a patriotic and revolutionary vigil was taking place on the eve of September 12, the date when the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters complete their eleventh year of incarceration in the United States.
A group of famous artists have begun a collective art project in that emblematic place, expressing the unanimous demand of the Cuban people and thousands of friends in the world for an end to that colossal injustice.
Gerardo Hernández, Antonio Guerrero, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González and René González were arrested in Miami in the early hours of September 12, 1998.
