MUA applauds Ark Tribe decision

Renewed calls for abolition of the ABCC.

The acquittal of Ark Tribe in an Adelaide Court this morning has been lauded as a victory for Australian workers and a bitter blow to the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) by MUA National Secretary Paddy Crumlin.

Mr Crumlin welcomed the Court's decision to acquit Ark Tribe after a protracted 18 month  long court battle.

"Justice has been served by this decision and the MUA now calls again on the Federal Labor Government to cast the ABCC to the dustbin of history," he said.

"It is time that the Prime Minister moved to fulfil Labor's long overdue promise to abolish the ABCC."

Meanwhile Mr Crumlin congratulated the CFMEU and all unions that campaigned strongly in support of Ark Tribe, including the many maritime workers who downed tools to attend rallies in his support.

He thanked Ark Tribe for his courage in standing up to the ABCC and risking prison by his actions.

"Australia needs more heroes like Ark Tribe. We salute him and congratulate him, his union and his family on an historic victory,"Mr Crumlin said.

"This is not just a victory for Ark Tribe it is a victory for all Australian unions and all Australian workers.
