The International Transport Workers' Federation's Offshore Task Force met in Mumbai on February 22nd to 24th. Among them was MUA Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman and the group pledged its solidarity with workers suffering violence from contractors.
The ITF:
Demands: that Maersk’s subsidiary GTI does the only responsible thing and sever all relations with contractors Thakur Infra Projects (formerly SC Thakur) and MS Casby Logistics with immediate effect.
Resolves: to participate in the public campaign to ensure that APM Terminals and GTI, engage only those contractors which recognise the Transport and Dock Workers' Union (TDWU) as the legitimate union to conclude collective bargaining agreements.
Further resolves: to support the TDWU and its union members working at GTI terminal through all lawful, and industrial means available, in their struggle to exercise their basic trade union and human rights.
Calls upon: ITF affiliates to make representations to AP Møller – Maersk to demonstrate our deep concern with regard to their behaviour in regard to the GTI business in Mumbai.
