ITF taskforce and Indian dock workers hold a minutes silence for Australian waterside worker killed on the Brisbane wharves
The International Transport Workers Federation, Offshore Taskforce Group, meeting in Mumbai India (February 22- 24) held a minutes silence for Australian waterside worker Brad Gray, 31, killed by a fork lift in his work place last month.
MUA Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman, who is represented on the taskforce, reports the meeting on receiving the sad news of the loss of life of stevedoring worker at such a young age, noted the event demonstrated how dangerous dockers' work can be.
A joint meeting with the Transport and Dockworkers Union of India also extended deepest sympathy to Comrade Gray's family, workmates and the Maritime Union of Australia at the time of the loss of one of their sons.
Brad Gray died on the Brisbane wharves on February 20, the fourth Australian waterside worker killed in a workplace accident in as many years. His death has highlighted the need for a proper safety code of practice on the wharves.
