Blue Highways - Sounds Good

First time in more than a decade Australia has a shipping industry policy - MUA Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman.

A re-elected Labor Government would provide the tax incentives, regulations and skills to entice ship owners to invest in new ships for the Australian fleet, Transport Minister Anthony Albanese announced, yesterday at the Australian Shipowners Association winter luncheon in Melbourne.

For the first time in more than a decade  blue highways and Australian shipping will be part of the national transport system - and that's good for our environment, our economy, jobs, security and skills.

“Given Labor's policy announcements on rail infrastructure improvements, its commitment to road transport reform and now shipping policy, Australia now has the framework for a truly nationally integrated freight transport plan that will deliver significant benefits to the nation,” MUA Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman said.

“It will also attract foreign investment and signals to our trading competitors that we are fully prepared to compete along the entire supply chain as a trading nation.”
