The union has continued to lobby Government on all aspects of shipping policy. Most recently, National Secretary Paddy Crumlin urged that should the Commonwealth Government adopt a comprehensive shipping policy which includes one or more fiscal measures such as a Tonnage Tax, Accelerated Depreciation, relief from the Royalties Withholding Tax for bareboat charters, Ships Capital Grants, Roll-over relief and/or seafarer taxation concessions, resource companies stand to gain considerable taxation benefits that will substantially offset liabilities under the Resource Super Profits Tax.
