About Us

The Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) is the only Union for Australia's maritime workers.

Our Union is built on solidarity, equality, and social justice. We fight for the rights of every worker, ensuring fair treatment, safe workplaces, and the chance to thrive. Through collective bargaining, advocacy, and active engagement, we work tirelessly to secure better wages, improved conditions, and enhanced job security for our members.

The MUA represents a diverse range of maritime industries. From seafarers and port workers to divers and offshore oil and gas workers, our Union amplifies the voices and champions the interests of individuals in shipping, stevedoring, ferry services, and more. We are united in our mission to promote the welfare of maritime workers and uphold their rights.

Your Union

The Seaman's Union of Australia and Waterside Workers Federation merge to create the Maritime Union of Australia (1993). The lead-up to the merger saw the Marine Cooks Bakers and Butchers Association (formed in 1908) amalgamated with the SUA in 1983, and the Federated Marine Stewards and Pantrymen's Association merged in 1988. In 1991 the Professional Divers Association also amalgamated with the S.U.A.
