French seafarers go for govt guarantees14 July 2003
The French seafarers union has called off a national strike after government offer to talk
The seafarers' federation of the Confederation Generale du Travailis is seeking assurances that the French seafarers' pensions regime will not be affected by government pension reforms before parliament, Lloyds List reports. A top level meeting is now being held with the secretary for transport on Wednesday. But the union warned it would not be satisfied if it did not receive written assurances that the existing retirement age and pension entitlements would not be changed.
