Japanese union donates $6,000 to MUA flood appeal

The MUA National Secretary was in Tokyo leading the negotiations with the world's shipowners for a new labour contract that will cover over 5000 ships and 200,000 international seafarers.

"The generosity of Japanese dockworkers and their expression of sympathy and support for victims of the disaster again demonstrates the values and strength of the international union movement particularly within the ITF,"  said Paddy Crumlin

In his letter Mr Itoya expressed his sympathy for a disaster fundamentally driven by climate change.

He expressly extended his hope that "peaceful lives and normal conditions"will be reinstated as soon as possible.

This latest support follows many similar donations from ITF afilliates across the world
