Resolution of Sydney Branch Committee

Robert Coombs Pre-Selected ALP Member for Swansea

23 December 2006

By Sydney Branch Committee -

The MUA's Sydney Branch Committee wholeheartedly congratulates Robert Coombs on his ALP pre-selection to the seat of Swansea in NSW. We express our total support to Robert and are completely confident that Robert will be an excellent ambassador for the MUA and all working and disadvantaged people within the NSW parliament.

We are ecstatic that the MUA will now have a voice in the NSW parliament and are confident that Robert's working class values and principles will guide him in being a voice for decency, justice and equality in that arena.

We pledge to support and assist Robert in his election campaign and will work to ensure that the Branch provides feet on the ground, assists in articulating and distributing Robert's election material and works in whatever way is necessary to advance the position and contribute to Robert's successful election as the next member for the seat of Swansea.

Lastly we congratulate and thank Robert for his wonderful contribution to the betterment of the lives of all maritime workers; from his time as a job delegate to his role as a relieving official and then all the way to the National President of the Maritime Union of Australia. We thank Robert especially for his hard work in and leadership of the Sydney Branch of the Maritime Union of Australia. Robert leaves the Branch in good condition but he does not leave the struggle to improve the lives of working people, only the specific arena, and we look forward to Robert's contribution in the parliamentary arena being as successful and productive as his contribution was to the workers he represented for over twenty years in the trade union movement. We are certain it will be.

Carried unanimously by the MUA Sydney Branch Committee
