MUA Silence For Fallen Miners

MUA members and officials have remembered the 29 Pike River miners with two minutes silence to coincide with the memorial service in Greymouth.

Delegates at the 2010 Sydney Branch conference (above) were some of the MUA groups who observed the moment.   At 2pm today December 2nd New Zealand time over 11,000 gathered in Greymouth to honour the victims of this shocking tragedy.

Paddy Crumlin, as National Secretary of the MUA and President of the International Transport Workers' Federation, has conveyed our deep sorrow at the event, and has encouraged all members who are able to contribute to the Pike River relief fund established by the Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) in New Zealand to benefit the families left behind.  Eleven of those killed were members of the union, including Blair Sims who was the mine delegate.
