The MUA Sydney Branch stands in solidarity with the 43 Dock Workers, who were unfairly sacked from the Port of Toamasina, Madagascar. To make matters worse, while a Malagasy court ruled that the company must recognise the Union, no action has been taken.
In Australia we’ve seen similar attacks - 97 Hutchinson wharfies were locked out and sacked at the dead of the night via text. That’s why the Sydney Branch and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) are rallying on Tuesday 28 February, to demand justice for the Malagasy 43.
This will be part of a global day of action, with rallies staged in various capital cities including : Washington, Brussels and Ottawa.
After our Stop Work Meeting, we will be marching directly to the Madagascar Consulate located on 47 York St, for a 1:30pm kick off. All are welcome to attend.
Let’s come together and unite to support union jobs and to ensure the workers’ are fairly reinstated.
