The South Australia Branch will be participating in this year's Merchant Navy Day.
“The SA Branch and Merchant Navy Association will be hosting Merchant Navy Day and illustrating the important contribution the MUA has made to Australia’s growth and prosperity in peace time and in war of which Australian Merchant Seafarers lost 1 in 8 during the WWI & WWII," according to Branch Secretary Jamie Newlyn.
"The SA Branch will be celebrating this historic contribution and condemning the Abbott Federal Government’s deplorable actions and active undermining of the Australian Merchant Fleet with the most recent losses of the tankers Tandarra Spirit & Alexander Spirit adding to the steep decline of Australian Vessels in recent years.
"Commencing at 11am, will be a short March from the Port Adelaide Workers Memorial (corner St Vincent St & Commercial Rd, Port Adelaide) to the Admella Navigator Memorial at Dock 1 Port Adelaide Waterfront where wreaths will be laid remembering lives lost at Sea."

Mark Butler: Federal Member Port Adelaide, Shadow Minister for Environment, Climate Change & Water.
Jamie Newlyn: MUA SA Branch Secretary
Gary Johanson: Mayor Port Adelaide Enfield Council
Terry Ralphe: Merchant Navy Association
This will be followed by a BBQ and refreshments on-board the historic Port Adelaide Ketch “Falie”.
