To the Rescue

By Maritime Union of Australia

My wife and I were guests on the yacht Rasa sailing from Darwin

to the Kimberly Coast when it suffered a major steering failure

80 miles from the West Australian coast during adverse weather

conditions. The owner of the vessel put out a Pan-Pan call after

my wife began violently ill due to motion sickness. I was also

suffering from a severe imbalance problem.

The Mermaid Raider responded to the Pan-Pan call, and effected the rescue of my wife and myself during heavy seas. The transfer was carried out in a professional and seaman like manner by the master and crew.

Upon arrival on the Raider the crew treated us both. My wife, who is a practising nursing sister, has high praise for the treatment and compassion shown.

During our stay on the Raider the Master and crew were at all times helpful and mindful of our needs and a credit to their company and the union.

We were transferred to the Geco Resolution 2 days prior to their crew change. Again the master and crew were both professional and kind. Thank you to both the management and crew of both companies for their help and assistance in our time of need.

Pal & Val Emmerson
