Maritime diary

    Maritime Diary
No one can cop being taken for granted, or worse, taken for a fool. The longer it goes on the more grating and infuriating it becomes. Yet that is how John Howard and his government treats the Australian electorate.

Members

    I'm in the Union
Nicole Watson, mother of three, wife and wharfie at P&O Port Botany was one of four MUA women attending a regional seminar held by the International Transport Workers’ Federation in the union rooms in March. And on International Women’s Day she marched through the streets of Sydney calling for women’s rights and protesting the wrongs of war.

Shipping news

    Shipping tycoon in media storm
Paul Martin of CSL shipping fame was tipped to be Canada’s next prime minister. Now it’s not so sure. Investigative journalism is alive and well in Canada. And it seems that every news hound is on the scent of Martin.

bali bombing

A tribute to Lyn & Marissa
Every morning before breakfast, she left her husband and daughters at home, and took Holly the collie for a long walk. Through the streets near her Kincumber home. Lynette McKeon and the collie covered kilometres, at a really brisk pace. They never missed a morning. The time out was as much for Lynette as it was for Holly. Holiday Holocaust
Sydney wharfie Ross McKeon & port worker Dave Byron were holidaying with family in Bali when a car bomb shattered their lives. A tribute to Chloë
It’s just like her. Sydney mural artist Droogie has painted Chloë on the beachfront at Bondi. She looks out over the waves where she once surfed. And somehow no matter what end of the beach I’m surfing I can see her watching me. Sharing and Remembering
“Ross and David’s loss is greater than any human being should ever endure,” said MUA National Secretary Paddy Crumlin. “Unions aren’t just about fronting the boss and getting workers more money. They’re about sticking together. Looking after your mates. Good people share in the good and the bad.”

peace campaign

    Peace is Union Business
A global uprising — this is how the San Francisco Chronicle described it. An unprecedented worldwide outpouring against war. CFMEU & MUA Oppose War
The Maritime Union of Australia and the Construction Forestry Mining and Energy Union are calling on their members and their families to mobilise in support of the campaign to end Australia's involvement in the war on Iraq and to Bring the Troops Home.
