Stevedoring
Stevedoring workers, dock workers, known best in Australia as WHARFIES, make up the majority of MUA members. Around 6,000 labour around the clock seven days a week up giant portainer cranes, in straddles and on the ships arriving in our ports carrying the nations imports and exports.
Coal, wheat and minerals are shipped out at bulk and general in our regional and city ports, while the containers of consumer goods arrive and leave the five major terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle.
