Global union leaders to attend court to protest persecution of South Korean colleagues

Global union leaders will attend a Seoul court next Tuesday, 26 July, to witness the treatment of Cho Sung-deok, one of several South Korean union leaders who have been put on show trials on trumped-up charges.

Cho Sung-deok is expected to be sentenced at 10:00 on 26 July at the Seoul Central District Court House (Room 506), 157 Seocho-Jungangro, Seocho-gu Seoul. Leaders of the ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) and other trade unions will give an impromptu press conference outside the court immediately afterwards (expected to be at 10:30).

The ITF’s president, general secretary and assistant general secretary are visiting South Korea to witness the sentencing and to visit other unjustly imprisoned union leaders and their families.
