Former Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman Finally Goes on the Record About the Blythe Star Disaster

Last night on Channel 7's Sunday night, ship wreck survivor and former Deputy National Secretary Mick Doleman told his story about what happened when the Blythe Star sank off the West Coast of Tasmania in 1973.


Doleman is the last living survivor and it was an event of which the details he had mostly kept to himself. It was only after pressure from his family did he relent and agreed to go on the record. 

The final result is a well produced, gripping and sympathetic tale of what happened when the bulk carrier went down and the story of survival following the shipwreck. 

It was the fourth watched show on Sunday evening with almost 1.5 million Australians tuning in.
