Colombia is the most dangerous place in the world for trade unionists, human rights defenders, student activists and community leaders. The abuses recorded have included assasinations, forced disappearances, arbitrary detention, torture and forced displacements. over 60% of trade unionists killed world wide are Colombian and in 95% of cases the perpertrators enjoy complete immunity. Over 30 000 people have been forcibly disappeared. There are 7500 political prisoners languishing in Colombian gaols. It seems clear that political activists in Colombia, and in particular those involved in workers organisations and human rights campaigns are the targets of persecution.Attacks against them occur in numerous different institutions throughout the country and can therefor be described as systematic. Show your condemnation for this abhorrent situation by joining maritime workers and the Sydney Latin American community by attending this demonstration in solidarity of our Colombian Comrades. STAND UP AND BE COUNTED!
