Mabo Day Celebrations

This year will be the 19th Anniversary since the High Court of Australia's landmark Mabo decision.

This nullified the notion "terra nulius" - that the land was not occupied. The court ruled in favour of Mr Eddie "Koiki" Mabo and fellow plaintiffs, from Murray Island (Mer) in the Eastern most part of the Torres Strait Island Groups.

All comrades, friends and workers are invited to support and join with us in the day's celebrations to be held in Townsville on that day.

There will be a Commemorative Ceremony followed by a morning march from the Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo Drum Monument on Dean Street (along the river) in South Townsville, that will proceed to the Townsville Culture Centre.   There will be lunch at the centre following.

Please feel  welcome to bring your union colours and/or  indigenous flags along for  the march, Thank you for your time.
