Domestic violence clauses

The MUA has achieved the first domestic violence clause to be included in the Geraldton Port Authority EBA, which is a significant win for women and an achievement the negotiators are extremely proud of.

Svitzer have also agreed to include the clause in the EBA currently being negotiated.

Whilst some improvement has been seen in recent EBA’s with regards to parental leave we are still a long way behind in providing good clauses which include flexibility for parental leave.

White Ribbon Campaign

The MUA has signed up to the newly launched White Ribbon workplace accreditation program as an employer. The program was developed in consultation with business, unions and community groups.

Updating the Equal Opportunity and Anti Harassment and Bullying policy

The MUA is committed to preventing and addressing discrimination, harassment and bullying in the workplace, however, we are reviewing the current policy to ensure that it is current for this day and age. The MUA will be surveying members to identify issues regarding discrimination, harassment and bullying in the workplace and reviewing our processes for complaints procedures.

Female membership up

While women represent only 6% of MUA members, female membership did increase in the last year by 14%, which is a positive development.

The MUA strongly encourages the involvement of women in the union.
