The Maritime Union of Australia, South Australian Branch covers members in the seven ports of Thevenard, Port Adelaide, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Port Giles, Whyalla and Wallaroo, working in stevedoring, seafaring, towage, port services, grain handling, warehousing, on tugs, barges, passenger and car ferries.
The Branch also has members in the offshore oil and gas industry, including divers. The geographical distance between the regional ports and our Port Adelaide-based office is vast, making a good delegate structure and communication with the regional ports fundamental to the success of the union.
The South Australian Branch is committed to empowering members and ensuring that members participate in decisions that govern their respective working lives. The South Australian Branch can assist members or provide advice on industrial and legal matters. It has a good working relationship with SA Unions as well as political and industrial contacts.
The South Australian Branch values are Unity, Solidarity, Militancy, Camaraderie, Ethics, Safety, Loyalty, Humanitarianism and Honesty, with a local, national and international focus.
